Plano-Convex Cylindrical Lenses

Plano-convex cylindrical lenses are used to coalesce light on one axis. This lens is made of BK7, so it is not suitable for ultraviolet wavelengths. Compared with spherical lenses, cylindrical lenses are more difficult to manufacture. It is necessary to choose the material reasonably (texture, bubbles, impurities, uniformity), pay attention to the factors affecting dispersion (scratches, dents, gloss), and grind with high quality. It can be divided into uncoated and antireflective multilayer film lenses coated with visible band domain. , plano-convex cylindrical lenses are commonly used for illumination of slit and line detector arrays, laser projection, laser line focusing and anamorphic beam shaping.

A typical application of plano-convex cylindrical lenses is to achieve deformed beam shaping with a pair of cylindrical lenses. While conventional spherical lenses act symmetrically on incident light in two directions, cylindrical lenses act on incident light in only one direction, and a pair of positive cylindrical lenses can be used to collimate and circularize the output of a laser diode; another possible application is to use a single cylindrical lens to focus the diverging beam onto detector array. To minimize spherical aberration, the collimated light should be incident on the curved surface of the lens when converging the collimated beam into a line, and the line source should be incident on the plane of the lens when collimating the line source.
